When it takes 40 minutes to introduce the protagonist
I recently watched Fargo (1996) for the first time and was blown away. It felt like an incredibly unique story and at the forefront of that was it's protagonist. What a weird and enjoyable movie. From it's dark humor to untraditional story telling tactics, Fargo feels like a film that's gotten better not worse as time passes.

The Emperors New Groove is one of my favorite comedies that disney's made. One part of it that stands out to me so much is how it seemed to understand modern humor so well even though it was released in 2000. Before all these nihlistic self aware comedies took over the internet The Emperors New Groove did it in a positive way. That's really hard to do while also being funny. The article I got i...

    I loved it... then I watched it again. The acting is actually pretty horrible ending and it's so corny and cringey. And the underlying plot makes her whole reason destroying universes for what? So mom can seee something inside the bagel she couldnt? Then she was like oh you cant ok lets just hold hands and go together... ok nm ill just go alone Pretty weak underlying plot and you cant deny that. Some acting was wonderful... some was really bad. I was actually embarrassed showing it to a friend because she hated it too and i was right there with her. A lot of great things but all the cleverness is overshadowed by the lack of common sense. I loved the innovation I loved everything about it the first time. I realized it was not as good. It buckles from the weight of its own creativity

    David is a manipulator. He is able to warp people’s perspectives and make them think he is a good man who is trustworthy and honest. He thinks he is the messiah for his followers. In a way he’s a cult leader who the people in his group know he is a monster but is either too scared or trapped thinking that as abusive and evil David is he is the only person they believe can help them survive. David is an allegory for abusive relationships and abusive father figures. He thinks he is a messiah a man who shepherds his people to a better tomorrow. David is a monster and a predator who is able to make people believe he isn’t. That’s what’s so terrifying about him.

    I really like the vibe and filmmaking of this video, but I can't help but caught up in the premise. I love the idea of repetition, and making more (and better) things should eventually lead to success in an ideal world. But the Ludwig example just doesn't make sense to me. The idea that you could start a channel from nothing and then achieve success is not demonstrated by an already-rich man with staff and years of experience, producing something as an experiment, and then only succeeding because a larger content creator happened to bless them with watching it and showing it off. I think more exploration about the inherent nature of luck and the dreaded algorithm could be mentioned - everyone is working from the same template, but no one knows what the template actually wants or says, we can only guess based on what others have succeeded at. Brilliant video regardless, I really love your channel. Like many others, I came here from TLoU videos, but I'm excited to see your other videos too :)

    • @GameFuMaster
      @GameFuMaster 8 месяцев назад

      Exactly, Ludwig's example is terrible, because it basically came through marketing, i.e. having a large streamer watch your video. Also, the video that Ludwig made is a throwaway interesting video, but definitely doesn't translate into any other fields, like becoming a popular let's player or skit based videos or even general commentary videos. Having ONE popular video doesn't make you a successful youtuber. So many channels have millions of subscribers, but only a few ten thousand views per video

    3:02 I just have to say I disagree so much with that statement! Ladybird is a good movie, I liked it. Little Women is an absolute great movie and almost perfect in every aspect and I loved it but Barbie in comparison is just a comedy. The femenist ideas in Barbie are not deep and not even subtle and it is absolutely taking the fourground with the amount of times "patriarchy" was named in that movie. All of the actual problems are just scratch on the surface and are so "on-the-nose" that they basically jumped out of the screen. I just watched Little Women yesterday, again and it just made me sad thinking about what Barbie could have been!

  • @SpinnnCycle

    I really liked this video and I'm interested by what you have to say about gerwig as a director. But I have to politely disagree with your point that Barbie didn't take itself too seriously. I think as a film and as a narrative, it took itself incredibly seriously. I think Greta made the whole movie FEEL like playing with Barbies while also having a mature conversation about feminism and the role of femininity within that sphere. I think things that are pink and fluffy and cute can be serious too. My sister is trans and she openly sobbed for the entire duration of the film because it's message is so so so clear to women. I think there's levity, and silliness, and there were moments of the film when I was both crying and laughing, but this narrative takes itself exactly as seriously as it should.

    • @PeyTheWriter
      @PeyTheWriter Год назад

      Hmm I see your point. I feel like a story doesn't have to be taken too seriously for it to resonate intensely with emotions. I think that's something that Greta does really well! I think we agree! And I'm very glad to hear the movie meant so much to your sister!

    Good movies are good movies........ You don't watch movies for diversity, you watch it for entertainment. Gender of the director doesn't make the movie less/more entertaining. If the movie is good I will watch it doesn't matter if it was made by a female or male director.

    • @Comicbroe405
      @Comicbroe405 Год назад

      Not exactly a bad point but considering the type of films Greta usually does & how she is atm the most well known female director, it's a point that should be mentioned imo.

      @@Comicbroe405 good direction should be appreciated...... My point is that the gender of the director is insignificant. As you liked her movies let me ask you a question, would you dislike her movies if she were a male instead of a female?? If your answer is yes then don't reply.

      i think you're ignoring the fact that people's lives influence their ability to tell a story. Do you think someone with a background in professional sports might be more capable of telling a compelling story about an aspiring artist? Diversity is incredibly important for making art because we've seen a completely disproportionate amount of stories being told about specific groups of people. I loved the movie Minari, and I think that's a result of having people with diverse experiences in a position to tell stories that other people haven't. My favorite part of movies is how you have a chance to see into the life of a character and I want to experience stories that aren't so similar. So diversity for creators is important, because experience largely influences a person's ability to tell a story.

    • @htll777
      @htll777 Год назад

      @@PeyTheWriter story telling is an art. Someone with a background in sports will be good in sports but it doesn't mean that a sports person will be good at story telling. For story telling you need good observation skills. I am cool with diversity but that doesn't mean I will appreciate something just because it comes from diversity. It's all about quality irrespective of the source. You can have a different opinion, I am cool with it.
